Go Under the Surface of Tulum

Welcome!

After moving to Mexico in 2021 and buying a property in Tulum, I decided to create this travel blog to share everything I’ve learned about this slice of paradise. Tulum Travel Blog is a compilation of all my insider tips and knowledge as an expat living in Mexico.

My Story

How I fell in love with Mexico…

Hi, I’m Nellie Huang — a travel writer, book author, serial expat and fun mum.

For as long as I can remember, travel has been a big part of my life. The day I graduated with a Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, I packed my bags and took off on an open-ended journey around the world.

In 2008, I started a travel blog, WildJunket.com, to document my travels around Africa, Asia, and South America. Over the years, this blog grew to become one of the most popular travel resources online. I also started writing for magazines, including Travel + Leisure Asia, CNN Travel and BBC Travel.

I had no idea it would lead me to a career in travel writing and to a life of adventures. Thanks to my job, I’ve traveled on assignment to many incredible places, including Antarctica, Greenland, North Korea, Bhutan, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe.

Over the years, I’ve led a semi-nomadic life, traveling out of a home base that I have with my husband and our daughter. We’ve lived in Spain, UK, US and the Netherlands over the past two decades.

In 2021, we decided to move to Mexico’s Caribbean coast in search of a fun, free and outdoorsy lifestyle. We chose Tulum for its tropical weather, infrastructure, and a large expat community.

I started this Tulum Travel Blog, as a means to share everything I’ve learned about this slice of paradise. I also created Mexico Travel Blog, covering all the various places I’ve visited in Mexico: from the spectacular Copper Canyon to the vibrant capital Mexico City and the more cultural regions of Chiapas and Oaxaca.

Join me on this exciting journey to dive deep beneath the surface of Tulum and uncover the multi-faceted personality of Mexico.
