While the ancient ruins and dreamy beaches steal the show in the day, Tulum nightlife presents a whole new atmosphere and experience. When the sun dips below the horizon, Tulum is transformed into a pulsating playground of hedonistic delight. Until recently, neighboring coastal towns like Cancun and Playa del Carmen were the undisputed hubs for moonlit parties and explosive nightlife. But Tulum has grown into quite the hub for jungle parties with its alterntive music festivals and beach clubs.

If you’re ready to party the night away in Tulum but unsure where to start, you’re in the right place. I am sharing all of my favorite places to go to help you fully experience Tulum’s nightlife. Whether you’re looking for the best restaurants, bars, beach clubs, or party hostels this guide will show you exactly where to go for an explosive experience.

Fun Activities To Do at Night in Tulum

1. Eat Street Tacos 

The streets of Tulum pueblo come alive in the evening, and it’s great for strolling around and stopping for street tacos and cheap local food. Head to the intersection of Avenida Satélite and Avenida Tulum (the main drag) that’s always bustling with activity. 

Of all the competing food trucks lined up on the curbside, Aca Tacos de Canasta draws in the longest lines. This simple stall, sporting a bright yellow banner, is known for its tacos de canasta (steamed tacos) topped with huevos revueltos (scrambled eggs), chicken mole (a rich savory sauce), or chicarron (pork marinated in adobo). As they steam, the tortillas absorb the flavors and colors of the fillings.

2. Eat, Dance and Be Merry at the Food Truck Park

A popular and lively gathering spot for locals, Palma Central is a vibrant food truck park just off the main drag of Tulum. It’s always a hive of activity and surprisingly untourist – there’s always something going on here, whether it’s Salsa Tuesdays (where you can learn and dance salsa for free), live music or DJ spinning. On weekends, you’ll also find artisans selling jewelry and handicraft. If you’re looking for things to do in Tulum at night, this is the place to add to your Tulum itinerary!

There are around 15 food trucks here serving street grub from around the world. The Asian food is not the most authentic, but it’s pretty affordable and curbs my cravings. The burgers and pizzas here are really good and you can get giant Micheladas (beer with tomato, Worcestershire sauce and lime) at a good price too.

3. Join a Mezcal Tasting Dinner Party

One of the coolest things to do in Tulum at night is to go mezcal tasting. (Mezcal is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from agave, similar to tequila but it’s got a smoky taste that I love.) Book this interesting mezcal tasting dinner party experience to taste different mezcal and pair them with delicious contemporary Mexican food in a private jungle home in Tulum. It includes a 3-course dinner cooked on the fire paired with tastings of five artisanal mezcals.

For a simpler (and cheaper) alternative, check out this mezcal experience hosted by one of Mexico’s all-star craft cocktail experts. You’ll learn the basics of mixology, including some useful principles of making agave-based cocktails. Then, you’ll get hands on and creative with the ingredients, making your own mezcal cocktail following a suggested recipe.

4. Party on the Beach at Papaya Playa Project

Papaya Playa Project is one of best places in Tulum to chill out and dance the night away on the beach. The beach club features famous DJs and great music – and it stays open until 3-4 AM. Once a month is the legendary full moon party, which is the biggest of its kind in Tulum.

Gitano is another sexy spot for mezcal cocktails under the stars. Set under a thatched canopy in a stylish jungle-like venue, Gitano attracts a more laidback and mature crowd.

5. Join the Mystical Sunset Events at Mia Beach Club

As a budding beach club, Mia has become a favorite for the younger crowd thanks to its creative events. Mystical Experiences hosts their renowned Mystical Sunset event at Mia Beach Club one to two times a month. The event is known for its stellar lineup of electronic music DJs like Valderrama, Oscar L, Nuup, among others.

Highlighting the evening are captivating fire shows, interactive body painting sessions, and immersive photography opportunities, creating an enriching sensory experience.

6. Join the Social Pub Crawl

If you’re looking to enjoy Tulum’s nightlife (safely) and meet new people, book a spot in the Social Pub Crawl Tulum. You’ll get to mingle with other travelers, get free drinks and entry to clubs. 7. Go Wild at the Zamna Music Festival

Tulum is famous for its musical festivals, raves, and parties, and Zamna is perhaps one of the most popular ones. Launched at the end of 2017, the concept-brand festival takes place annually in Tulum. 

It features performances by renowned artists such as Bedouin, Tale of Us, and Grammy Award-winning Black Coffee. One of the festival’s standout attractions is the “Afterlife” multi-sensory show. Admission prices for Zamna range from US$80 for early bird tickets to $1,996 for backstage passes.

8. Join Day Zero 

Inaugurated to mark the end of the Mayan calendar in 2012, Day Zero has since evolved into one of the world’s most transformative events. Held annually in the mystical jungles of Tulum, this festival merges the natural, mythical, and euphoric. 

Day Zero brings unique storytelling through powerful performances and stunning productions. Lasers pierce through ancient canopies and futuristic alien creatures blend with ancient Mayan themes. The captivating atmosphere encourages partygoers to experience space and time in novel ways. 

9. Take the Xoximilco Night Cruise

The Xoximilco Night Cruise is undoubtedly one of the best party experiences near Tulum. On this cruise, you’ll hop aboard traditional Mexican trajineras (gondola boats) and float along the water while enjoying delicious local food, dancing, and live music. During the first half of your evening, you will indulge in tasty dishes like fish, steak, and molé, the national dish of Mexico. 

Reminiscent of the famous Xochimilco boats in Mexico City, this cruise is all about dancing, laughing, drinking lots of tequila, playing games, and competing in contests. It’s the perfect way to get to know other guests and have a memorable night in Riviera Maya.

Beach Zone

The Beach Zone is where most of the dance clubs and beach parties are located (Papaya Playa, Mia Tulum, Vagalume Tulum, Bonbonniere) offering a lively and energetic atmosphere for those who love to swim, eat, drink and dance.

There are plenty of high-end restaurants that offer a dinner and party vibe as Bagatelle and Gitano Jungle. The prices in the Tulum Beach area tend to be higher than in the rest of Tulum (and Mexico!) so be prepared. It’s important to be aware that there may be limitations on operating hours, so it’s recommended to verify the latest guidelines before making any plans.

Tulum Pueblo

Tulum Pueblo (town) offers a relaxed vibe with some bars and restaurants that cater to a more laid-back crowd, and typically they have more relaxed closing hours. The local vibe is found mostly around downtown, and it includes a diverse selection of places to eat, drink, and dance.

During a typical week, activity tends to start low on Monday but gradually picks up pace as the week progresses, reaching its peak on Friday and Saturday. Here’s a guide to the best events throughout the week;

Monday

Tuesday

Happy hours are fun but a dose of adrenaline instead could help spice things up. Head to Xplor Fuego Park Nighttime Adventure. The nighttime escapade lets you zipline through the jungle canopy, swim in mysterious underground rivers, and tear through rugged terrain in amphibious vehicles.

Thursday

If you’re tired of clubbing in Tulum, then take the Xoximilco Night Cruise for a unique experience. Experience the ultimate fiesta on this 7-hour night cruise, where the spirit of Mexico comes alive on traditional trajineras. Glide through the tranquil waters as vibrant mariachi music fills the air, setting the tone for a night of celebration.

Friday

Watch the sunset and enjoy happy hour specials at Straw Hat. A Friday evening at Straw Hat is often a night to relish. While here, you will have dinner and enjoy happy hour delights amidst the laid-back ambiance of its rooftop terrace.

After the sun goes down, you can then dive into the vibrant nightlife at any of Tulum’s premier nightclubs. However, Straw Hat is known for hosting some of the wildest parties in Tulum. So, you might just find yourself staying all night.

Saturday

On Saturday nights, salsa enthusiasts of all levels converge at Batey for an exhilarating Salsa Night experience. Starting at 11pm, the vibrant atmosphere pulses with energy as dancers indulge in the rhythmic delights of salsa. Expert instructors lead engaging lessons, ensuring even beginners can find their footing before the night heats up with the infectious beats of a Cuban band.

Sunday

Reggae Sundays at La Zebra are a vibrant celebration of island vibes and chilled-out rhythms. Reggae Sunday draws a crowd of relaxed revelers eager to bask in the sunshine, sip on ice-cold Red Stripes, and groove to live reggae music. Get there before noon if you want to snag prime beach chairs or hammocks and settle in for a day of swaying to the music.
